what are successful realestate investors buying these days and where?

Are single family homes still a good investment given the right area? What area? or is it better to go multi-family as many suggest? or find something other than realestate!

REITS (real estate investment trusts) have been good investments during the past 5 years and the past 5 months
as well as REIT mutual funds
Many of these have doubled in the last 3 years

    Pre-foreclosures are difficult to obtain, but they are the best investments you can make in real estate at this time.
